Eligibility
Illinois families with a current foster home license and adoption home
study who are prepared to adopt waiting children may complete the Family
Registration form.
Registration
When the completed Family Registration form is received in the AICI office,
it will be reviewed by the AICI Adoption Listing Manager.
If the family does not meet the eligibility for registration, the form will
be returned to the family with an explanation.
If the family is eligible for registration, the family’s information will be
entered in the computerized matching database.
Registered families will also be added to the mailing list to receive the
Adoption Listing Service book of waiting children monthly, and the AdoptMe
newsletter, bi-monthly. If you do not wish to be added to the AICI mailing
list, please notify the AICI at 1-800-572-2390.
Suggested Child Matches
Weekly, AICI staff will make searches of the computerized matching database
to match waiting children with prospective families.
When a computer match is made, the family, family’s agency worker, and the
child’s worker will receive a letter suggesting a possible child and family
match. If the AICI has a copy of the family’s home study on file, the AICI
can send a copy to the child’s worker.
When the family receives a match letter, the family should talk with their
worker and discuss whether the match is appropriate.
If the family is interested in the child(ren), their worker should contact
the child’s worker to arrange for the exchange of more complete information
prior to discussing a possible placement.
Family data will be kept in the computerized matching database until a child
has been placed or a request is received for the family data to be
withdrawn.
Annually, the AICI will notify the family or agency to submit updated
information.
