What is the Heart Gallery?
The Heart Gallery is a new approach to finding loving adoptive families
for children who are in the care of the state’s child welfare system. The
gallery features beautiful photos of the children, taken by professional
photographers who have graciously donated their time and talent to the cause. Posted
alongside each photo is information about the child, designed to give
visitors an insight into his or her personality, interests and
aspirations.
The gallery helps viewers imagine
themselves as adoptive parents to these children and promotes thoughtful
discussion among families that visit. Heart Galleries in other states have
met with great success at recruiting adoptive and foster families. We are
hoping for similar success in Illinois. |
The Gallery Schedule
November is National Adoption Awareness Month and with your help, the dream of having a “forever” family can soon come true for waiting children in Illinois.
The grand opening of the Heart Gallery of Illinois was Friday, November 4th 2005 at the Chicago Children’s Museum at Navy Pier.
The portraits are a traveling statewide exhibition to promote adoption and foster care.

Who We Are
We are a group of volunteers working closely with the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, the Adoption Information Center of Illinois, and the Office of Illinois Lt. Governor Pat Quinn to find permanent homes for children who need and deserve them. We want to raise the awareness of people in our communities about the needs of children in foster care. We want to inspire people who otherwise would never see themselves as potential adoptive parents. |
