How does an adoption agency select a family for a waiting child?
First, "matches" are proposed between waiting children and licensed families. These matches may be suggested by the child's caseworker, the family's caseworker or the AICI. Families may propose a match if they have seen a child on the AICI website or in the media.
Once a match has been suggested, background information is exchanged between the child's caseworker and the family's caseworker. Each caseworker considers how well the parenting skills, experience and resources of the family meet the needs and interests of the child. If all parties agree that the child and family would be a good fit, then pre-placement visits are scheduled. Once everyone is comfortable with the arrangement, the child comes to live with his or her new family.
